Screen tearing
Tearing is a video phenomenon where the monitor displays two frames at the same time.
This results in a visible line in the video, particular during panning.
Windows 8 and higher should never have this problem while Windows 7 might display tearing depending on the Windows Theme.
Consider the following example:
In the example above, the camera is moving to the left. If the monitor displays the frame while it is in the middle of being updated, you will see
the updating frame at the top and the previous frame at the bottom. Because there is camera movement this results in a visible line, or tear in the image.
To eliminate tearing in Windows 7, follow the instructions below:
1. Right click the desktop and select Personalize
2. Select a theme in the Aero category
This will ensure the monitor output is synchronized with the video in such a way as to prevent it from being displayed mid update.
This is known as Vsync or Vertical Synchronization.
Windows 8 does not require changes as Vsync has now been permanently enabled.
